Kramer Management Group is proud to have served as the Owner’s Representative for McLaren Macomb to expand services on their Harrington Street Campus. The facility was facing increased demand in the community and needed to expand the existing emergency department, as well as improve access to the department. KMG led McLaren through a competitive process for selecting partners for Construction Management and Design Services to help establish the project scope, budget, and timeline. Once the team was in place, KMG oversaw every detail of the design and estimating process to work towards project approval.
Through every step of the way, KMG led the budget, change management, and invoicing processes to always keep McLaren apprised of the project status. The project leaders worked closely with McLaren to expertly guide them when project finances could be impacted by scope increases or changes, always seeking to keep both the client’s bottom line and the community’s needs in mind. KMG provided quality control and managed the procurement and installation process for medical equipment, furniture, fixtures, and technology. Throughout the process, McLaren Macomb stakeholders often turned to KMG staff first to address concerns and questions.
The resulting project is a five-story addition to the existing campus that not only provides for a larger emergency department, but also provides a Graduate Medical Education Department, public meeting spaces, new sleep rooms, medical student and physician lounges, and three shelled floors that will allow for future expansion of McLaren Macomb’s surgery department, additional patient rooms, or new services. The new emergency department increased the site’s capacity by 68 treatment bays, including fast-track vertical units, trauma bays, an area for patients to await results, a secure behavior health area, and new x-ray and CT equipment. The heliport that used to occupy space in the parking lot was relocated to an elevated platform along the river immediately adjacent to the new emergency department to improve time to treatment and maximize the amount of convenient parking spaces.
Thanks to the successful partnership between Kramer Management Group and McLaren Macomb, the hospital system is now poised to respond quickly to community needs to support the region in an expanded, state-of-the-art facility nestled right in the heart of Mt. Clemens, MI.
